An official letter from the Admiralty office granting appointment of Commander to Robert Oliver of the steam Vessel HMS DEE, which had just finished construction at Woolwich.

Administrative / biographical background
HMS Dee was a paddle steamer that served in the Royal Navy from June 1832 to June 1871. She was the first steam vessel planned to carry a significant armament ordered by the Royal Navy.
