These are two visitor books of the Herschel Observatory written in both ends. The front section of the first book contains the visitors to the Observatory from 1 January 1791 to 12 July 1924 kept by Caroline Lucretia Herschel and Sir William Herschel with the back of the book containing list of persons whom John Frederick William Herschel gave presentation copies of his work. The second volume is a visitors book kept by Sir William Herschel and his sister Caroline Herschel between 1783 and 1846.
