Letters and testimonials sent to John Harrison by Commander Thomas J. Young VC, formerly gunnery lieutenant on HMS SHANNON (1855):
(1) Account of Harrison's gallant conduct at the siege of Lucknow on 16 November 1857, for which he gained the Victoria Cross, undated.
(2) Letter to Harrison on four pages, discussing employment prospects following his discharge from the Royal Navy, and his request for testimony to corroborate statements made to Lord Carew in his application to join the Customs service in Wexford, sent from Paris, dated 18 January [1859].
(3) Letter to Harrison on four pages, with a separate statement of his qualities and abilities, dated 29 January 1859.
(4) Certificate stating that Harrison received a flesh wound from a spent bullet at the relief of Lucknow, dated 21 November 1861.
