In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

You have advised us in your letter of today that you have treated with the owners of the SMIRNA MERCHANT, for letting her for their Majesties' service as a man-of-war of the 5th Rate. It is your opinion that she be allowed 140 men and 40 pieces of ordnance, viz 14 demi-culverin of about 25 pounds each, 20 sakers of about 14 or 15 pounds each, and 6 minions of about 6 or 7 hundred weight each. You are directed to have the ship fitted out by her owners for service in the Channel, and victualled for 4 months.
