Alexander Rowand (born 1868) was commissioned into the Royal Indian Marine in 1889. He was one of only two officers of the Royal Indian Marine to receive the DSO (Distinguished Service Order) during the Boxer Uprising. He further served in the Somaliland Operations of 1902-1904, as Lieutenant in Command of the Dalhousie. He retired in1909 but returned to active duty with the Royal Navy in 1914.
