Two Gunnery and torpedo history sheets and service certificate of George William Glading, covering from 1913 to 1922. Also includes a watch warranty dated 5 June 1900, citing the siege of Ladysmith, 1899; mounted newspaper clippings about seaman George Wiliam Glading, a member of the crew of HMS POWERFUL, and his role in the defence of Ladysmith.

Administrative / biographical background
Volunteered in 1895. One of the naval brigade of HMS POWERFULl at the siege of Ladysmith in 1899 forming part of the garrison. During the First World War engaged in minelaying and minesweeping activities in "Iphigenia" and "Jupiter". In "Vengeance" during the Dardanelles campaign. In "Calypso" during the capture of the two Bolshevik destroyers ""Spartak" and "Avrotil" off Revel, 26-27 December 1918. Pensioned 11 January 1920. Described in Certificate of Service as 5'8" with fair hair and grey eyes. Tattooed with a Japanese lady and woman's head, a pot of flowers on his left forearm, a similar pot with ships, crossed flags and clasped hands on right forearm.
