Eight letters written by Charles William Thomas Cookesley (born 1838) to his father and sister while serving on the SS VICTORIA, transporting troops from Malta to the Crimea via Gallipoli, Constantinople and Varna, September to December 1854. Including a description of the Battle of Balaclava. His father was Dr John Moore Cookesley of Boulogne (1811-1868).
