Warrant from George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, dated 1628 as Lord High Admiral to the Navy Commissioners on the appointment of David Duck, Master Caulker at Chatham and the payment due to David Duck.

Administrative / biographical background
A Calker is a person who caulks; drives oakum into the seams of a ship's wooden deck or hull to make it watertight. George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham, ( 28 August 1592 – 23 August 1628), was appointed Lord High Admiral in 1619. In 1628, Buckingham was at Portsmouth preparing another expedition to La Rochelle when he was attacked and stabbed to death by a discontented army officer named John Felton.
