Administrative / biographical background
Born 6 October 1914, Richmond, Surrey. Harvey began service during Second World War as an ordinary seaman in the BRITISH SECURITY, continuing to serve in the TASCALUSA, BRITISH ENERGY, BRITISH INDUSTRY, CITY OF EVANSVILLE, CITY OF EASTBOURNE, EAST COASTER, ARAWA, EMPIRE USK (third mate), CORFELL and the FORT ESPERANCE (as second mate) until the end of the war. He obtained is master certificate of competency in 1950 and became first mate of the PETREL in 1952 and continued to serve in that capacity until 1957, his last ship being the SHELDRAKE.
