Holograph letter from James Cook to the Navy Board dated 14 May 1772. "I received the enclosed letter from Lieutenant Cooper informing me that the ships is so exceeding crank that he thinks it unsafe to proceed with her any further than the Nore, I beg leave to offer it as my opinion that she is too deep in the water to carry sail". Plan of the Resolution Sloop. The blak lines show what is proposed for the RESOLUTION sloop. The red lines as the ENDEAVOUR Bark was fitted. The RESOLUTION has three cabins more for the passengers below than the ENDEAVOUR had. The RESOLUTION has likewise the additional convenience of Quarter Galleries.
