Letter from Henry Blackburn, Ordinary Seaman on HMS POLPYHEMUS, to his mother. Dated Gibraltar, 1st November 1805, he recounts his part in the Battle of Trafalgar ten days previously.

Henry Blackburn was born in Ramsgate, Kent, in 1783. He was recorded as a 'late ganges' on HMS ROYAL WILLIAM in late 1804, and joined the POLYPHEMUS as an Ordinary Seaman on the 26 January 1805 under Captain Robert Redmill. He served at the battle of Trafalgar and continues to appear on the POLYPHEMUS's muster books up to 1810.
