The first part consists of over two thousand letters received by Nelson between 1796 and 1805. This is the main collection of letters to Nelson and his correspondents include most of the important political, naval and social figures of the time. Among the most frequent were Sir John Acton (1736-1811) Prime Minister of Naples, Captain (later Rear-Admiral) Sir Alexander Ball (1757-1809), Alexander Davison (q.v.) Admiral Sir Richard Strachan (1760-1828) and Admiral Sir Thomas Troubridge (?1758-1807). There are also letters from Admiral Viscount Hood (q.v.) to Sir William Hamilton (q.v.) 1793 to 1794. The second part consists of five boxes of drafts by Nelson, Admiralty letters to him, mostly for 1801, letters from Nelson to other commanders, 1794 to 1805, and some relating to lands granted to him in Sicily. There is also a log, 1793 to 1794. In the third section there are letters from Nelson to Lady Hamilton, 1798 to 1804, and letters received by Sir William and Lady Hamilton, 1787 to 1810. Among these are over a hundred letters from the Queen of Naples to Lady Hamilton, 1794 to 1803. (6ft; 183cm).
