Nelson to Lady Hamilton, Amazon, 19 Oct 1801, (Harrison I, 91; extract in Nicolas, IV, 514), on calling on Mr Pitt, who he describes as “a great man although he never did anything for me or my relations”. He says he would rather hear Lady Hamilton talk about anything (he gives “an anecdote of Fatima”, a maid Nelson had brought to Emma from Egypt, as an example) over any parliamentary speech. He writes about portrait paintings and their plans to hang them at Merton. Lastly, he updates Lady Hamilton on his ailments, and mentions that his brother would like to be a bishop.
