Eggins, Douglas George, Trinity House Pilot, 1894-1972.
The colleciton consists of eight day books, forming a continuous record between 1922 and 1958 of all the ships which Eggins piloted in and out of Falmouth Bay and Harbour, together with the fees charged. There is also a typescript of the scheduled times of movement of craft before D-Day, 1944.

Eggins was born in Bristol in 1894 and first went to sea in 1910 as an apprentice on the TREVERBYN (1910) owned by The Hain Steamship Co. Ltd. (Hain Line). In the period 1915-1919 he was a deck officer on vessels belonging to the British India Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. While employed on the HINDU (1894) during wartime he had a temporary commission as a sub-lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve. He was employed as second mate of the Hain Line vessel TREGARTHEN (1913) prior to gaining his certificate of competency as master (certificate number 008667) in 1922. In that year he also became a Trinity House pilot. He retired in 1958 and died at Falmouth in 1972.
