Heron-Allen
The collection consists of engraved portraits and autographed letters from about fifty naval officers, 1695 to 1839. Many of the most notable figures in naval history are represented by a single letter. Those represented by two include Admirals Alexander Cochrane (1758-1832), 1809 and 1810; Lord Duncan (q.v.), 1796 and 1802; Lord Hood (q.v.), 1792 and 1797; Lord Keith (q.v.), 1792 and 1807; Sir Sidney Smith (q.v.), 1801; and Edward Pellew, Lord Exmouth (q.v.), 1797. There are three written by Lord St Vincent (q.v.), 1777, 1797 and 1822
