The volume contains an index in the form of a 'list of episodes', an alphabetical index, also a list of illustrations. The autobiography includes several photographs of family members, including one showing Baillie-Grohman's wife Evelyn as a Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) nurse between 1914 and 1916. There is a photograph of Baillie-Grohman as captain of the destroyer HMS LIVELY, taken at some point between 1914 and 1915. The account includes extensive coverage of his service during the First World War (pages 116 to 182).
