Journal kept by Richard Cotten on HMS COMUS, 1879-1886
Journal kept by Richard Cotten in the corvette HMS COMUS (1878) on the China and Pacific stations, between 22 November 1879 and 7 March 1884. The volume also contains accounts of a search for survivors of a shipwreck in the island groups of Crozet and Kerguelen in the southern Indian Ocean, and a visit with HMS LILLY (1874) to the Pellew Islands off the north coast of Australia. There are also some notes on gunnery, copies of poems, and a list of places visited during the commission.
