Sick And Hurt Board, In-Letters And Orders

Admiralty to Sick and Hurt Board, 16 August 1782 enclosing Howe's letter of 22 July 1782: Admiral Lord Howe recommended an invention of John Grafin of dried and preserved kale added with barley and shallots to portable soup to make a nourishing food. An experiment he conducted in the Channel fleet when he was Commander-in-Chief.
