Leslie Reade (1904-1989) was an author, whose works include "The Ship that Stood Still", a narrative of the actions of the crew on the CALIFORNIAN. The SAMSON was a Norwegian sealer, which some claimed was in the vicinity of the TITANIC when she sank. Leslie Harrison, General Secretary of The Mercantile Marine Service Association wrote two books in defence of Captain Stanley Lord of the CALIFORNIAN and his actions on the night of the sinking of the TITANIC, and fought to clear his name of any wrongdoing. Captain Geoffrey Martin Bennett (1909-1983) was a British Navy officer and author, whose works included "By Human Error" (1961). Charles Victor Groves (c.1888-1961) was the Third Officer on the CALIFORNIAN the night the TITANIC sank.
