Lieutenant's Commission appointing Nicholas Evans to HMS CLARENCE.

Lieutenant’s Commission appointing Nicholas Evans to HMS CLARENCE, 74 guns, signed by members of the Admiralty Board, ‘Melville’ (Robert Dundas, 2nd Viscount Melville, 1st Lord of the Admiralty, 1828-30) and ‘G Cockburn’ (Admiral Sir George as 1st Naval Lord of the Admiralty); also by John Wilson Croker, Secretary to the Admiralty. The space for ‘Seniority’ is separately filled in as 2 Jan, 1826 and the form bears two other annotations: £1:2:.. above an indecipherable signature above Croker’s and, bottom right, a note reading ‘for Rank’ This warrant would not appear to be as it says, ‘for Rank’ with a fee paid, naming a ship not in active commission at the time.
