Journal kept by Field as a midshipman and then sub-lieutenant in HMS WARRIOR, HMS DUKE OF WELLINGTON , HMS PENELOPE and HMS GLADIATOR. The front contains details of the ships' movements and weather conditions in printed tables, and the rear contains narrative entries, occasionally illustrated with pen and ink sketches. There are also drawings of the ACHILLES, LORD CLYDE, ST GEORGE, PENELOPE, WARRIOR, BRISTOL, ARANCANIA, FOX and GLADIATOR at the front of the journal.
