Memories notebook kept by Vice Admiral Sir James M. Pipon KBE, CB (1882-1971).
Contains four short, one-page essays on Pipon’s experiences in the Navy. The essays are on the following subjects:
1. Queen Victoria (Pipon served on her guardship VENUS in 1898 and witnesses the memorial gun salute fired at Malta on her death);
2. Pipon’s service on HMY VICTORIA AND ALBERT, including Edward VII’s official visit to Wilhelm II, the German Emperor, in 1904 and Pipon’s father’s encounter with Wilhelm II on a previous occasion.
3. First Sea Lord Louis Mountbatten (formerly Prince Louis of Battenberg), whom Pipon served with on HMS DRAKE.
4. Pipon’s involvement in sport during his naval career.
