Letter from William Roberts to Messrs Cook, Waller and Hutchinson, owners of the AMBUSCADE, with a list of men injured or killed on the 6th January 1763
Written whilst at Rio de Janeiro. The six page letter describes the attack on the Spanish at the River Plate by the AMBUSCADE, LORD CLIVE and the rest of the squadron, and what proceeded after the attack. It also mentions the actions Roberts took against the ship’s boatswain John Hogis who had attempted a mutiny at Lisbon. The letter is accompanied by a list of the 13 dead and 24 wounded on board the AMBUSCADE on the 6th January 1763, which gives the men’s name, rank and, for those injured, details of their injuries and whether they survived.
