Written in a "Small Scribbling Diary 1897", which was published by T. J. Smith, Son and Downe, the diary contains printed entries separate to Lady Arbuthnot's own writings. The first few pages are an almanack for 1897 followed by guides to stamp duties and assessed taxes. Lists of previous governments, judes and law courts, City and Metropolitan police and London bankers are given. Lastly, there is a guide to the postal system.
