In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

(1) The ship is very firm and strong, excepting a leak in her bows, occasioned by a shot from the French in Bantry Bay, which went through the knee of the head which has split the stem. I also pray that an order may be obtained to change the guns, those now being all drakes and will not throw a shot little more than half the distance that home bored guns would do. I pray a speedy order may be sent for going up river to refit or to Portsmouth where my men may be brought on shore to recover their health.
(2) I have put on shore 80 sick and 10 dead men and men I have sent to Plymouth in prizes and have put on shore in Torbay which amounts to 120 men. I beg your Lordships will take this into account and that the ship may be cleaned, her ballast got out and smoked. Account written by Captain Carter, Commander of the PLYMOUTH and Captain Graydon, Commander of the ST DAVID.
