In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
It appears to us by an Oath, enclosed in your letter of the 6th inst; taken by several Masters of Fishing Smacks before the Mayor of Rye, that the Smack HOPEWELL belonging to Thomas Hipper of Barking in Essex, together with her apparel, lost in attempting to assist the FALMOUTH in distress in Rye Bay, was worth the sum of one hundred and one pounds ten shillings at the time she went to assist.
Direct you to cause this sum to be paid to Thomas Hipper in consideration of the loss of his Smack.
