In June 1914 he is in Kristiana, Denmark. He comments on the outbreak of war in 1914, an At Home party being cancelled owing to the ‘heir to Austria and his wife being assassinated’, and contains the King’s message on the outbreak of war. Records HMS GRAFTON being attacked by submarines in the North Sea in October 1914. He acquires a parrot.
