In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

[Copies] of proposals sent to the Committee for Trade and Plantations pursuant to an Order in Council of 18th January 1693 by the Petitioners of a Patent of Incorporation to trade with New England in which it is claimed that New England is insufficiently developed to be able reliably to supply HM Navy with copper and timber products. The petitioners propose that on the grant of a Patent they will invest substantial sums in increasing the labour force in that place as well as investing substantially in purchasing land for increasing production. The proposals continue with estimates of the quantities of goods to be contracted for on an escalating basis together with the frequency of deliveries. The petition ends with a broad hint that the petitioners expect they will be granted a monopoly, signed [Jonathan] Bullfinch, Clerk to the Petitioners.
