In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
No date recorded. The petition of John Taylor merchant to the Committee for Trade and Plantations in which he states that acting on encouragement from the Crown he has sent a valuable cargo of stock to New England as well as instructing his Agent there to employ labour in making tar and pitch. He relates that he has already taken delivery of a quantity of high-quality pitch and that he has overcome great difficulties in building a Fourth Rate ship at Piscalqua. He alludes to various difficulties arising from interference from the Governor of New Hampshire and others in failing to protect the settlement from the French and Native Americans and in actively attempting to discourage the enterprise. He appeals for assistance from the Crown including permission to form a company of soldiers.
