In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Copy of proposals made by HM Consul at Genoa in which reference is made to a subject of the Republic of Venice who served as a Master Builder in their Arsenal and now proposes that he, his son and himself come to England or another place in order to build Galliasses of Venetian type, including advising on how to manage them at sea. Much is made of the characteristics of the galleys, their sea-keeping qualities and their superiority to those built by the French. Details of armaments and weights of shot are given. Claims are made for their nimbleness whether under sail or oars, in calm or rough weather.
