The aim of this chronology is to record the history of discovery, exploration, exploitation and research in all regions of the Antarctic and far southern waters. The record begins in 700 BC and includes voyages by sealers and whalers, details of merchant ships blown off course, voyages directly engaged in exploration and research as well as tourist and yacht cruises. Statistical information is provided for the sealing and whaling industries. The text is illustrated with maps, illustrations and photographic plates.
