From Dartmouth to the Dardenelles : a midshipman's log

The story of ten months spent as a 16-year-old midshipman during the First World War compiled from a narrative written during a period of shore leave and edited by the boy's mother. Neither the midshipman, his ship, nor his mother are named in the account. The period covers his mobilisation as a Dartmouth Cadet in 1914 and his experience at sea in the early months of the war. This includes his ship's voyage via Gibraltar and Egypt to Mombasa, Zanzibar and Dar-Es-Salaam. The journal concludes with the sinking of his ship during the Gallipoli campaign and his return home.
