A history of the China Navigation Company (C.N.Co) founded by John Swire in 1872 as a Yangtse River steamer company. The text, supported throughout by photographs, features vessels trading on inland waters, the China coast, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific as well as passenger ships, bulk carriers, tankers, ships pirated and war losses. Technical details are provided for each vessel featured and appendices provide fleet lists and cover war losses (1941-1946) and twentieth century piracies.
