Details of decoration of the 'Isabella' yacht 1683

A drawing of the port quarter-badge depicting a single window with elaborately decorated frame and two reclining figures at the top.

In the bottom left is an elaborate chesstree formed of a dolphin with the note ‘voord smijt’ (for the tack). On the right is a wreathed gunport.

Inscribed ‘de isabel’.

This is a pen and brown ink drawing by the Younger, signed, ‘W.V.VJ’. It has been approximately dated by the subject and style.

The chesstree and the indications of brace and main sheet near the badge show that these are the details of the ketch-rigged ‘Isabella’, and not the earlier yacht of the same name.
