A Miraclous Preservation in a Storm (2). This Drawing Represents the Marquis of Anglsea War Office packet when struck by a heavy sea, ca. 1816
Second in a three-part series of watercolours, in imitation of prints with handwritten inscriptions, illustrating the recovery of the ‘Marquis of Anglesea’ after capsizing in heavy seas. The present image shows the vessel in port broadside view having capsized on the port side. Two crewmen can be seen clutching onto the boom, while two others above them have begun to drift with the waves. Another individual drifts off in the distance on the upper right. The hatch covers have also been lost intermittently.
