Golden Hind

Medium includes pen and black ink; heightened with white. This watercolour portrait of the Golden Hind depicts a profile of the ship at sea. Several figures are visible on the deck and give a sense of scale for the ship's proportions; she was 120 feet from bow to stern and had a breadth of 22 feet. The outline of seven gunports can be made out on the facing starboard side. She appears to be flying the flag of St. George from the mainmast. A bird flies by the stern of the ship.
