To the Right Honble. the Earl of Northesk.... this print of His Majesty's Ship Britannia returning to Port is respectfully dedicated.....
Print, from a painting by Hornbrook, one of a pair from the Caird Collection. The print shows the Britannia (1820) leaving Devonport, and is dedicated to the Earl of Northesk, G.C.B., Rear Admiral of Great Britain and Commander in Chief at Plymouth. The Britannia, broken up in 1825, had been Northesk's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, but since the Britannia is shown leaving with the Lord High Admiral on board, the date must be 1828.
