H.M. Brig Hunter

A starboard, broadside view of the naval two-masted, 18-gun brig HMS Hunter, flying the Blue Ensign from the gaff of the mizzen spanker. The lower courses of the main and mizzen mast are furled, as is the jib. Although the gun ports are open and the cannons readied, this is not a battle scene. There is no gun smoke nor any other vessel depicted. The nine figures on the deck appear to be relaxed and viewing the cliffs of the coastline which they are approaching.

This watercolour has been attributed to the artist Serres, but does not appear to carry any artist's inscription.
