The Gates to a Garden or Cemetery
The cypress trees seen beyond the gates and wall suggest that this may be a cemetery. Wyllie’s mother, Katherine, died at Wimereux, France in 1872, and it is tempting to surmise that the sketch may depict the cemetery at nearby Wimille where she was buried.
