Sketch of a promenade with people, showing seabirds at low tide

A sketch drawn by William Lionel Wyllie. The sketch has been rendered in grey wash watercolour. On the right hand side of the image, stretching into the distance is a promenade along the shore line with several lampposts. Two steps run the length of the promenade down to the shore line which is dotted with medium sized rocks. On the other side of the promenade is a wall with several arched niches built into it. A steady stream of figures walks along the promenade. The sea has not been sketched but the shore line is indicated by the rocks. There is no distinction between sea and sky. Wyllie has depicted a flock of seagulls on the right hand side of the sketch. Some have been depicted clearly and the wings and body can be distinguished from each other as can the grey and white markings of the birds. Other birds are depicted using just two curved lines, indicating that they are further away.
