Vectis (1895); Victoria (1897)

A 12x10 negative. A port bow view of the spritsail rigged topsail barges Victoria (1897) and Vectis (1895) crossing the finishing line in Gravesend Reach, River Thames, at the end of the Thames Barge Match. The Victoria (1897) beat the Vectis (1895) by just six seconds after 5½ hours of racing. The Victoria (1897) has race number 6 and the Vectis (1895) has the race number 11 on dark flags fixed to their forestays. A vertical format image. Negative broken right across and has been repaired.
