Admiral Keppel
An oval bust-length portrait of Augustus Keppel (1725–1786) in rear-admiral’s full-dress uniform, 1767–87, draped with a flag and hanging above a baton of command. Lettered underneath the image with the title: ‘Admiral Keppel’. This print was published by R. Baldwin as an illustration in ‘The London Magazine or Gentleman’s Monthly Intelligencer’, volume 47 (July 1778), opposite page 291, alongside ‘Historical Memoirs of Admiral Keppel’. The magazine described the print as ‘a striking Resemblance, drawn from an original Picture in the Possession of the Family’. (Updated May 2019.)
