Passenger/cargo liner Monteagle (1899)
A 12x10 negative. A slightly distant port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Monteagle (1899) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is in service as Boer War transport number 87 and she has troops on board. She is flying her call sign QVNC. The ferry Carlotta (1893) is alongside the Tilbury ferry pontoon in the left background. The original glass plate negative has been broken and discarded but a half plate glass negative number 8885 has been made from a 12x10 photographic print produced from the original negative in the 1950s before it was damaged.
