Riachuelo (1883)
A quarter plate negative. A starboard side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the Brazilian Navy armoured turret battleship Riachuelo (1883) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has an auxiliary 3 masted ship rig with single topsails, topgallants and royals. Awnings are rigged over all decks including her bridge. A large and a small bawley are at anchor. Tilbury is in the background. The date 10/9/84 is scratched on the emulsion of the negative but this date cannot be confirmed. The edges of the negative are protected by sellotape. A Gould copy of a larger Gould negative that has not survived.
