A 35mm roll film negative. On board the Rothesay class type 12 frigate Rhyl (1959) in Devonport Dockyard. In the steering gear compartment on 3 deck between 75 and 80 stations. The photographer is looking forward on the port side from the aft end of the compartment showing the enclosed steering gear on the right. Three drums of glycerine are on the deck with a box of pipe and cable clips on top of them. A MacTaggart Scott and W H Allen, Sons & Co pump unit is dominant on the the left. The photograph was taken prior to 9 May 1972. A vertical format negative.
