Hermes (1953). The P.Os. recreation space on 2 deck during conversion.

A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the P.Os. recreation space on 2 deck during conversion. He is looking to port and forward in the bar and large lounge area looking through an opening into a smaller lounge area. Settee benches are against all of the bulkheads and a large speaker is in the corner of the smaller lounge above the settee bench. The bar is on the left with the grill shutter closed and a hopeful sailor is leaning against the bar. To the left of the opening is a telephone and above the opening is a clock reading 10.52.
