A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the junior rates and other ranks dining hall on 4 deck between stations 40 and 64. He is looking forward and to starboard showing rows of tables and chairs with doors to the chief cook's office and to the bread pantry and ice cream store in the starboard bulkhead. A watertight door to the serving area is in the forward bulkhead and a man wearing breathing apparatus has just come through this door, which has an automatic emergency lantern by the side of it. A large fire hose and connection point is on the forward bulkhead.
