A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the junior rates and other ranks dining hall and counter area on 4 deck between 40 and 50 stations. He is looking forward from between the tables in the centre of the hall. A large watertight hatch with a tannoy above is on the right. In the centre are a smaller watertight hatch and a watertight door with an automatic emergency lantern beside it. On the left is a fire blanket box, a cable stowage point and a fire fighting point with a hose stowed in a rack below a fire main. Between the two hatches is a 'Whereabouts diagram E section 40-50'.
