Hermes (1953). On the flight (1) deck during conversion.
A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the flight (1) deck looking to starboard at the aft end of the island superstructure at 134 station showing a heavy steel locker with a fire point next to it. A man is painting the pipework. An angled perforated plate is next to the open watertight door to the flight deck party store. Scaffolding is against the aft end of the superstructure.
