On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the flight (1) deck looking to starboard at the port side of the island superstructure at 121 station showing a fire point, steel locker, a large cable reel in front of the bow window of the aircraft control room and double watertight doors leading into a lobby. Storage trays and a steel locker are by the weapons lift cover on the left. The bottom of the Combined Operations badge can be seen at high level. A portable pump and armoured hose are on the deck.
